SCSU Women's Hockey Drops Series to UMD, 8-2

Duluth, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team dropped a road series to the University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday, 8-2.
Duluth started out just like game one Saturday with a goal just three minutes into the game taking a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored again to extend their lead on a power-play advantage at the 10:40 mark of the first period.
UMD finished the first period scoring two more goals to take a 4-0 lead over the Huskies into the first intermission of the game. The Huskies were outshot by the Bulldogs 17-to-4 in the first period.
It was all Duluth in the second period as they extended their lead, 5-0. The Huskies were able to get one past UMD's goalie on a power-play to make it a 5-1 game at the 12:52 mark of the second period. The Huskies' goal was scored by senior Alex Nelson who was assisted by Molli Mott and Audrey Hanmer. The Bulldogs came back to score on a 5-on-3 power-play advantage to take a 6-1 lead into intermission.
Duluth's Jamie Kenyon scored their seventh goal just 39 seconds into the third period. SCSU found the net again 2:26 into the third period to make it a 7-2 game with a goal by Audrey Hanmer. An assist was charted to goalie Julie Friend, her first of the season.
The Bulldogs got one last goal past the Huskies at the 8:02 mark in the third period for an 8-2 victory.
Katie Fitzgerald started in goal for the Huskies playing 17:10 recording 10 saves, while Julie Friend finished playing 42:50 and totaled 23 saves.
The Huskies (8-15-1, 4-14-0 WCHA) will return to action January 18-19 as they go on the road again to Ohio State University. Games are slated to start at 6:07 p.m. and 3:07 p.m. respectively.
