Huskies Go To a Shootout at #9 Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio – The St. Cloud State women's hockey team ended a tough battle to the #9 Ohio State Buckeyes in overtime, tied 1-1 and fell in a shootout.
Ohio State took a 1-0 lead at the 11:45 mark of the first period with a goal by Danielle Gagne. The Buckeyes outshot the Huskies in the first period 8-to-5.
In the second period it was time for the Huskies to bring it back as Molli Mott fired one into the net at the 14:49 mark tying up the game 1-1. Assists were charted to Abby Ness and Michelle Burke on the goal. SCSU outshot the Buckeyes in the second by a margin of 15-to-8.
Mott is now co-leading the team in points (20) with senior Alex Nelson on the season.
The third period was scoreless, ending regulation with the game all tied up 1-1. At the end of regulations shots were close with OSU leading 34-to-29.
SCSU was able to get two shots on goal in the five minute overtime period but neither team could score. This sent the game into a shootout. The Buckeyes missed their first two shots and made their third as the Huskies missed their third shot to keep playing.
Sophomore Audrey Hanmer lead the Huskies with shots, posting six total in the game.
Julie Friend was in the net for the Huskies recording 33 saves, while Chelsea Knapp was in goal for OSU totaling 30 saves. Friend moves her record to 4-7-2 with the tie.
St. Cloud State (8-15-2, 4-14-1 WCHA) and Ohio State will be back in action tomorrow as they match-up for game two of the WCHA series in Columbus, Ohio. Game time is slated for 3:07 p.m. CT.
