1/26/2013 4:24:00 PM | Women's Hockey
St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team looked to split their series with North Dakota Saturday after a loss Friday but fell in a tough battle 3-0.
It was a game of defense to start out the first period with no scoring action until the 15:34 mark of the first as North Dakota took a 1-0 lead. It was Meghan Dufault scoring the UND goal. Shots on goal were almost even with UND outshooting the Huskies by a margin of 10-to-9.
North Dakota extended their lead 2-0 as Jocelyne Lamoureux fired a shot off to score a shorthanded goal at the 2:53 mark of the second period. The Huskies were able to outshoot UND in the second by a margin of 12-to-10 but could not get any shots past their goalie.
Just 3:43 into the third period UND fired a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle and put it right into the top of the net to take a 3-0 lead over the Huskies.
The Huskies just could not get any shots they took to go into the net. UND outshot SCSU by a margin of 31-to-28 in game two of the series.
It was Katie Fitzgerald in goal for the Huskies in game two recording 18 saves, while UND's Shelby Amsley-Benzie posted 21 saves in the game. Fitzgerald moves her record to 4-9-0 on the season.
St. Cloud State (8-17-2, 4-16-1-0) will take a week off of play and return to action on February 8-9 as they play host to the University of Wisconsin at the National Hockey & Event Center. Game times are slated for 2:07 p.m. both days.
