St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State University women's hockey team played host to the #8/9 University of Wisconsin Friday in game one of a two game WCHA series at the National Hockey & Event Center. The Badgers defeated the Huskies 6-0.
Wisconsin took an early 1-0 lead at the 9:18 mark of the first period on their first power-play advantage just after SCSU's Julie Friend laid out for a huge save. The Badgers second goal came at the 13:27 mark of the first period with a shot from the blue line by Saige Pacholok.
The Badgers were able to take a 3-0 lead just before the end of the first period as Kelly Jaminski fired a shot off from the left face-off circle.
Wisconsin outshot the Huskies 16-12 in the first period.
The Huskies played some good defense in the second period holding the Badgers to one goal at the 4:41 mark to make it a 4-0 game.
The Badgers came out in the third period scoring just 44 seconds into the period and then again 1:30 into the period making it a 6-0 game.
St. Cloud State could not jump back into the game after trailing 3-0 in the first period. The Huskies recorded 23 shots on goal but could not get any into the net.
Friend recorded 35 saves in the net for the Huskies, while Wisconsin's Alex Rigsby totaled 23 saves for the win.
St. Cloud State (8-19-2, 4-18-1-0 WCHA) and Wisconsin (16-9-2, 12-9-2-2) will return to action Saturday for game two of their final regular season meeting of the 2012-13 campaign. The drop of the puck is set for 2:07 p.m. at the National Hockey & Event Center.

St. Cloud State University is offering a sweet ticket deal for this weekends Women's Hockey home series against the University of Wisconsin. All men's season ticket holders will be admitted free to both women's games this weekend.
Saturday's game has been designated as Scout Day, with all girl scouts being admitted free in grades 2 to 8. Adult tickets will be $5.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Feb. 9
St. Cloud State University Athletics and the St. Cloud Area Girl Scouts are sponsoring a National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the National Hockey and Event Center.
The event is free to all area Girl Scouts and youth in grades 2 to 8. It will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 in conjunction with the SCSU women's hockey game against the University of Wisconsin. Registration and activities begin at 1:30, followed by the hockey game at 2:07, with the activities concluding at 3:30.
Young people can participate in a fitness circuit supporting healthy lifestyles and physical activity at stations sponsored by St. Cloud State Athletics (basketball, golf, soccer, volleyball), Campus Rec (Zumba and balance), CentraCare Blend (healthy lifestyle), the National Guard (challenge course) and the SCSU Women's Center (Title IX education).
In addition to the activities there will be opportunities to win prizes, watch the St. Cloud State women's hockey team take on the University of Wisconsin and a free ice cream sundae bar.
