Bemidji State Upsets the Huskies to Split Series

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team splits their first WCHA series of 2013 with Bemidji State Saturday in a 2-0 fall. The Huskies now move their record to 8-13-1 overall, 4-12-0 in the WCHA.
The first period was similar to the first period on Friday with no score. Bemidji State outshot the Huskies nine-to-eight.
BSU came out with a different feel and took a 1-0 lead at the 7:05 mark of the second period. Scoring for the Beavers was Allie Duellman and assists were charted to Mackenzie Thurston and Natasha Kostenko.
The Beavers were able to extend their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Emily Erickson at the 13:33 mark of the second period. Kristin Huber dished a pass to Erickson just past center ice to record the assist on the goal.
Sophomore Audrey Hanmer for the Huskies almost made it a 2-1 game as she fired a shot off hitting the post but it bounced away from the net near the end of the third period.
In the third period the shots were even at 10 with no scoring from either team.
Freshman Katie Fitzgerald was in goal for the Huskies recording 29 saves, while Jessica Havel for BSU totaled 21 saves for the shutout win.
St. Cloud State will return to action January 12-13 for a WCHA road series at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Both games are slated to start at 3:07 p.m.
