Women's Basketball Falls to UMD, 66-75

Duluth, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State women's basketball team traveled to Duluth, Minn. for their final game of 2013 this afternoon. The Huskies took on Minnesota Duluth in Romano Gymnasium and came up short, falling to the Bulldogs 66-75.
The Huskies entered the half down by six (27-33), but were unable to regain the lead. The Bulldogs led by as much as 13 in the final twenty minutes.
St. Cloud State drops to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) heading into the holiday break. The University of Minnesota Duluth improves to 7-3 overall, 4-2 in the NSIC.
Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) led all players for the Huskies as she finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds to mark her seventh double-double of the season. Benson also finished with a team-high five assists.
Senior point guard Rachael Moen (Savage) was the only other St. Cloud State player to score in double figures. Moen finished with 11 points on three of seven shooting from beyond the arc. Moen dished out four assists.
Coming off an injury, Katrina Newman led the Bulldogs with 27 points. Newman knocked down four of seven shots from three-point range.
The Huskies outrebounded the Bulldogs, 45-39. St. Cloud State committed 13 turnovers to UMD's 11 throughout the contest. The Huskies got to the line just seven times (shooting 3 of 7), Minnesota Duluth went five of nine at the line.
The Huskies will return to action on Jan. 3 as they travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on Minnesota State University followed by Concordia-St. Paul on Jan. 4.
