Women's Hoops Fall to #23 Minnesota State, 66-100

Mankato, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team didn't start the New Year the way they wanted to. The Huskies traveled to Mankato, Minn. to take on the #23 ranked Mavericks of Minnesota State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. St. Cloud State fell to Minnesota State 66-100 in tonight's action.
The Mavericks started out strong, taking a 20-5 lead in the first eight minutes of play. The Huskies went on a run of their own, cutting the Mavericks lead to just four (22-18) at the nine minute mark. St. Cloud State trailed 30 to 46 at the half and was unable to turn things around in the final twenty minutes. Minnesota State led by as much as 35 in the contest (2:22 mark).
St. Cloud State falls to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC. The Mavericks improve to 8-3 overall, 5-2 in conference action. This marks Minnesota State Mankato's 22nd straight win at the Taylor Center.
Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) led all players for the Huskies with 15 points on six of 10 shooting. Benson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.), Rachael Moen (Savage) and Emma Konopasek (De Pere, Wis.) each finished with eight points. Moen dished out a team-high five assists.
The Huskies shot 43% from the field but suffered from an uncharacteristic 27 turnovers in the game. The Mavericks led the entire game, scoring 34 points off of Husky turnovers and 51 points off the bench.
Ali Wilkinson led the Mavericks with 19 points (18 coming in the first half).
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow as they travel to St. Paul to take on Concordia University, St. Paul. The Golden Bears (10-4 overall, 5-2 NSIC) are coming off a victory over Minnesota Duluth (95-63). Follow tomorrow's 4 p.m. game at the following links:
