Hot Shooting Sparks Huskies in 86-53 Win Over Augustana

SCSU wins fifth straight game
Sioux Falls, S.D. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (13-12, 10-10 NSIC) won their fifth straight game with a 86-53 win over Augustana Saturday afternoon. The Huskies would turn 18 turnovers into 24 points while shooting 50% from the field with nine threes.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle as neither team could grasp much of a lead. With 2:14 left in the first quarter, SCSU would trail 13-9. Three buckets in the paint along with a pair of free throws led to an 8-0 run as the Huskies led 17-9 after one. St. Cloud State was able to carry that momentum over to the second quarter as a three by Alana Zarneke pushed the lead to double-digits halfway through the quarter. The Huskies continued to pour it on in the second as they shot 71% with four threes in the quarter. Zarneke ripped the nylon again as she spotted up for three off an offensive rebound by Reagan Briggs with two seconds left in the quarter. Briggs found Zarneke in the slot who cashed a three as the halftime buzzer sounded to put SCSU up 44-26 headed into halftime.
The Huskies would hold a steady lead throughout the third quarter as they took a 60-42 lead into the fourth. SCSU would again pour it on the Vikings as they outscored them 26-11 in the final frame on the way to an 86-53 win. St. Cloud State produced two quarter shooting above 66% while holding the Vikings to sub 41% from the field in every quarter. The offense was hot while the defense locked down on AU by forcing 18 turnovers. This was the fifth straight win for SCSU and they have won seven of their past eight games.
