Balanced Scoring Pushes Huskies Past Mustangs in Key 82-67 Victory

Defense forces 19 turnovers for 27 points
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (10-12, 7-10 NSIC) used balanced scoring to come away with a key 82-67 victory over Southwest Minnesota State Thursday evening. Six Huskies scored 8+ points and they turned 19 turnovers into 27 points.
St. Cloud State came out on fire on both ends as CJ Adamson capped off a 12-2 start by draining a slot three to force a timeout by SMSU. The Huskies continued to roll following the timeout as they ripped off a 9-0 run with Rachel Kottke cashing a three to go up 21-2 and force another timeout. SCSU would ultimately lead 26-12 at the end of the first. The Mustangs carried over their momentum from the end of the first quarter as they opened the second on a 9-2 run. St. Cloud State stayed poised as they kept a steady lead throughout the rest of the half. SCSU went into halftime leading 44-29 after a 5-0 run in the final 46 seconds.
Out of the break, SMSU would chip away at the lead but the Huskies had an answer every time the Mustangs looked to break through. SCSU went into the fourth leading 60-47. SMSU worked the lead under 10 with a 7-2 run to start the fourth. With 7:50 remaining, Paige Lambe would finish a tough and-one to momentarily halt the momentum. The Mustangs would not go away as they cut the lead down to six with 5:42 remaining. Lambe would add a point with a free throw before Kottke curled around Abigail O'Reilly to finish the open layup to push the lead back up to nine. After the teams traded free throws, Jada Eggebrecht nailed a crucial three as the lead got back into double digits. St. Cloud State led by 9+ points the rest of the way as they went on to beat Southwest Minnesota State 82-67 in their wire-to-wire win.

- Paige Lambe was the final Husky to score in double figures as she totaled 12 points on an efficient 5/10 shooting. She also recorded five rebounds and a block. This was her fourth game with 12+ points this season.
- St. Cloud State is now 44-20 all-time against SMSU.
- The Huskies led the game in field goal percentage (45.9-40.4), three-pointers made (9-6), free throws made (17-15), rebounds (34-33), assists (21-13), blocks (4-3), points off turnovers (27-17), second chance points (15-13), fast break points (9-8), and bench points (24-8).
- Alana Zarneke totaled nine points and four rebounds and assists.
- Ashley Sawicki produced eight points, six rebounds, and two blocks. She shot 2/4 from the field and 4/4 at the free throw line.
- Abigail O'Reilly also scored eight points to go with four rebounds and two assists. She shot 4/5 from the free throw.
- Reagan Briggs compiled five points and two steals.
- CJ Adamson cashed two threes for six points and dished out two assists.
- Kristi Kottke registered two points, rebounds, and assists and a steal.
