Women's Basketball Comeback Falls Short to #20 Concordia, St. Paul, 61-67

St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team traveled to #20 Concordia, St. Paul this evening for their second night of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. The Huskies fell to the Golden Bears 61-67 after an intense second half battle.
The Huskies drop to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC. With the win, #20 Concordia, St. Paul improves to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in conference action.
St. Cloud State trailed the Golden Bears 29-38 at the half. Concordia-St. Paul made six of 10 shots from behind the arc in the initial twenty minutes.
The Huskies started the second half strong, going on a 10-2 run to give the Golden Bears just a 39-40 edge by the 16:23 mark. While St. Cloud State was never able to take the lead, they kept the game within reach until the final buzzer.
The Huskies shot 38% from the field and made 16 of 19 attempts from the line. Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) led all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds. This marks Benson's eighth double-double of the season as she went eight of 13 from the field and recorded two blocks.
Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) finished with 14 points after shooting seven of seven from the free throw line. Price grabbed a team-high three steals.
Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) was the third and final Husky to score in double-figures. Petermann finished with 12 points, making two of four shots from three-point range.
Concordia, St. Paul was led by Carissa Wolyniec who made five of eight shots from behind the arc to finish with 19 points.
Both teams finished with 32 rebounds and 15 turnovers. The Golden Bears shot 47% from the field to the Huskies 38%.
The Huskies will return to action on January 10 and 11 as they return home to Halenbeck Hall to take on Southwest Minnesota State and the University of Sioux Falls.
