Huskies Dominate the Glass in 64-52 Win Over Wayne State

SCSU wins fourth straight game
Wayne Neb. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (12-12, 9-10 NSIC) won their fourth straight game with a 64-52 win over Wayne State Thursday evening. The Huskies controlled the glass with a +24 rebounding margin with 21 offensive rebounds leading to 26 second chance points.
Both teams started slow offensively as a layup by Abigail O'Reilly tied the game at six halfway through the first quarter. SCSU started to find their offensive footing as they consistently got into the paint and then finished inside. A layup by O'Reilly off an offensive rebound capped off an 11-0 run as the Huskies led 15-6 at the 2:19 mark of the first quarter. Wayne State would close the quarter on a 6-0 run to set the score at 15-12 after one. The start of the second quarter saw the Huskies stay hot as a 9-2 run opened up a double-digit lead. The Huskies continuously pushed the lead with ball movement and strong defense as they grew a lead as big as 18. The Huskies ultimately went into halftime leading 39-23.
Coming out of halftime, the Wildcats came out rejuvenated as they applied defensive pressure with a man press. SCSU would be forced into turnovers as WSC clawed back into the game. St. Cloud State would make timely shots to weather the storm as they went into the fourth leading 46-37. The Wildcats continued to roll to start the final frame as they cut the lead down to five. Jada Eggebrecht calmed the Rice Auditorium with a mid-range jumper. After forcing a stop n the ensuing possesion, Eggebrecht cashed a corner three after spectacular ball movement by the Huskies as the lead went back up to 10. St. Cloud State would lead by double-digits the rest of the way as they came away with a 64-52 win for their fourth straight victory.
