St. Cloud State University Director of Athletics Heather Weems announced today the appointment of Chad Braegelmann as the Huskies' next head volleyball coach.
Braegelmann was the head women's volleyball coach at the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he also served as the Sports Studies and Athletics Discipline Coordinator and as an Assistant Athletic Director.
"We are excited to welcome Chad (Braegelmann) and his family to St. Cloud State and Huskies Athletics," Weems said. Â "Chad brings a dynamic leadership style to our volleyball program, and has a history of building and sustaining success within his teams. He sets high expectations for his student-athletes and fosters a sense of pride in his programs through performance in the classroom and on the court. Our young women are excited to start the 2015 season and focus on improving each and every day."
Braegelmann becomes just the fifth coach in the history of the volleyball program at St. Cloud State, and he replaces Michelle Blaeser, who resigned in April 2015.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota-Morris, Braegelmann received his master's degree in education from Northern State University. He was named the head coach at Minnesota-Morris in 2008 and prior to that time he served as the head coach at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H.
In seven seasons at Minnesota-Morris, Braegelmann posted a 129-91 record. His team at Minnesota-Morris won a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title in 2013 and last year the Cougars were 23-12 with a 12-2 record in the UMAC.
At Colby Sawyer, Braegelmann carded a 156-80 career record from 2001 to 2007 and his teams there won two Commonwealth Coast Conference championships. Overall, Braegelmann owns a 285-171 career record in 14 seasons as a college volleyball coach.
Braegelmann has compiled nine 20-plus win seasons in his 14 seasons as a college head coach. He was named the CCC Coach of the Year three times at Colby Sawyer and was selected as the UMAC Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2010.
Braegelmann has coached four American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region players, five conference Freshmen of the Year, three conference Players of the Year, five Libero/Defensive Players of the Year and 51 All-Conference athletes.
A native of Richmond, Minn. and graduate of nearby ROCORI H.S., Braegelmann and his wife Natalie have four sons.
St. Cloud State University will open its 2015 season on Sept. 4 with a match against the University of Central Missouri in the first game of the 2015 Central Missouri Tournament. SCSU will begin its 2015 home season on Sept. 17 with its NSIC opener against Bemidji State University.
