#2 Huskies score big win over Newberry in first round at NWCA Duals

The #2 St. Cloud State University wrestling team helped head coach win his 200th career victory as a college coach with the Huskies 43-3 win over Newberry in the first round of the 2016 NWCA Division II National Duals on Friday, Jan. 8. Â The tournament is being held in Fort Wayne, Ind. and the Huskies next opponent will be Lake Erie College at 3 p.m. (ET) on Jan. 8. Â Lake Erie opened the tournament with a 47-1 win over Central Missouri.
The victory moves Costanzo's record as a college coach to 200-56-2 and it improves SCSU's record in 2015-16 to 3-0, 0-0 NSIC. Â He has served as a head coach in college wrestling for 17 seasons and he owns a 139-26 during his 10 seasons at SCSU. Â Prior to his tenure at SCSU, Costanzo was the head coach at Dana College from 1996-2006.
In the match against Newberry, SCSU's Brett Velasquez got things rolling with a 14-6 major decision over Newberry's Trung Dupng at 125-pounds. Â The wins continued with a 10-3 decision at 133-pounds by Jarred Oftedahl and Matt Nelson gained a tech fall (17-0) at 141 pounds for the Huskies. Â
In action at 149-pounds, Jay Hildreth rolled to an 11-2 major decison win over Zach Dobbins of Newberry and Travis Holt of SCSU gained a 3:55 fall against Alex Rice of Newberry at 157. Â #1 Clint Poster added his 19th win of the season with a 4:41 pin at 165-pounds and Vince Dietz of SCSU posted a 3:00 fall victory at 174-pounds.
SCSU completed the run with a 3-1 OT win by V.J. Guilio at 197-pounds and a fall victory at 1:18 by #1 ranked 285-pounder Austin Goergen. Â This was Goergen's 13th fall of the season and the win improved his record to 16-0.
