
Former SCSU Athletic Media Relations Director receives NGWISD award

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Former St. Cloud State University Athletic Media Relations Director Anne Abicht received the National Girls and Women in Sports Day Kwame McDonald Media Award on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.
The Kwame McDonald Media Award is for members of the media who have supported and promoted girls and women's sports. Â A female pioneer in the world of sports information, Abicht retired last summer from St. Cloud State after 30 years with the department. In addition to her contributions on campus, Abicht's decorated career has seen her work at numerous NCAA Division I and Division II championship events along with hosting conference and NCAA regional events at St. Cloud State. In 1992, Abicht had the opportunity to serve as the press officer with the United States men's hockey team in Albertville and she has worked at numerous Minnesota State High School League championships in softball, baseball, boy's golf and girl's golf over the years.
The award ceremony was conducted in conjunction with the 30th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day - a nationwide celebration recognizing the accomplishments of individuals in the promotion and advancement of girls' and women's sports. The 2016 ceremony honored 22 individuals or programs receiving awards in seven separate categories. Award recipients are nominated by schools, community organizations, recreation centers, and amateur and professional sports organizations.  The day's complete list of award winners is listed below.
