ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Cloud State outdoor track and field programs were led by its field program at the Holst Invitational on Saturday, April 16, at Sea Foam Stadium and hosted by Concordia-St. Paul.
The two teams ended up winning a total of five events on the afternoon and had 13 top-three finishes. The teams also had five NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying performances.
Among the highlights and top finishers were junior Patience Yalarati winning the women's triple jump and setting both the meet and the facility record with her 12.09m/39'08.00". Her mark also bettered her previous NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying mark. Yalarati also won the long jump at the meet with her leap of 5.67m/18'07.25".
Senior thrower Ryan Johnson won the men's hammer at the meet (57.93m/190'01"). His throw also bettered his previous NCAA provisional qualifying throw.
Freshman Elijah Pitchford won the triple jump for the second time in as many meets with a 14.90m/48'10.75". His mark was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, but did not better his previous mark in the event this season. Pitchford's leap would have been both the meet and facility record if not for the wind that was above the allowable limit when he jumped.
Freshman Nicole Morpurgo won the 100m dash with a 12.02 in the finals. She also won the preliminaries in the event with 11.98. Her time in the preliminaries was an NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying mark.
Senior Rafael Saez also achieved an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 50.94m/167'01" in finishing second in the men's discus.
Junior Myles Witcher placed third in the 110 hurdles (15.07).
Junior Isaiah Pitchford finished third in the 400m (49.14).
Junior Sam Sunstrom was the runner-up in the 5000m (17:50.79).
The men's 4x400 relay team placed third in their event (3:20.02).
Senior Cassie Cardinal earned third in both the women's shot put (12.71m/41'08.50") and the women's discus (41.17m/135'01").
Both outdoor track & field programs resume competition next Saturday, April 23, at the Lyle Hokanson Classic on the campus of North Dakota State University.
