Natalie Gottschalk Finishes Fifth In the Heptathlon At NSIC Multi Event Championships

Peter Bates Earns 15th in the Decathlon
MANKATO, Minn. – Sophomore Natalie Gottschalk finished fifth in the heptathlon and freshman Peter Bates placed 15th in the decathlon on the final day of the NSIC Multi Event Championship on Monday, May 2.

Gottschalk ended the two days with 4662 points. Her point total was an NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying mark and bettered her previous high point total of 4599.
Gottschalk had a strong second day in finishing second in the javelin (34.86m/114'04") and the 800m run (2:22.40). She also placed fourth in the long jump (5.41m/17'09.00").
Bates placed 15th overall among all competitors with 5558 points. His highest finish on the second day of competition was fifth in the javelin (45.61m/149.08"). He also placed sixth in the 1500m run (4:45.70), 13th in the 110 hurdles (16.81), 14th in the discus (26.72m/87.08") and 17th in the pole vault (2.85m/9'04.25")
Both outdoor track & field programs resume competition and head to the Tommy Twilight on Wednesday, May 4, in St. Paul, Minn. Both programs are also in action this weekend at the Winona State Open on Saturday, May 7. The NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue on May 13-14 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. hosted by Augustana University.
