Eyssimont picked in 5th round by LA Kings
St. Cloud State University recruit Dennis Cholowski has been selected as the 20th pick in the 2016 National Hockey League draft on Friday, June 24. Â A 6-1, 177-pound defenseman, Cholowski played junior hockey for Chilliwack in the BCHL from 2013 to 2016.
Cholowski was selected in the first round of the draft by the Detroit Red Wings. Â He is the first SCSU player (or recruit) to be selected in the first round of the NHL draft. Â The highest player selected in the NHL draft before Cholowski was Matt Cullen, who was picked #35 (second round) in 1996 by the Anaheim Ducks. Â Of note, Cullen helped Pittsburgh win the NHL's Stanley Cup during the recently completed 2015-16 season.

Mikey Eyssimont
SCSU's draft highlight on Satuday, June 25 was sophomore forward Mikey Eyssimont being selected in the fith round of the NHL draft by the Los Angeles Kings. Â Eyssimont the 142nd overall pick in the draft in 2016. Â As a freshman for SCSU in 2015-16, Eyssimont scored 14 goals, 19 assists and 33 points. Â He was picked as the MVP of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff tournament in 2016.Â
In 2015-16, Cholowski posted 16 goals and 39 assists for Chilliwack. Â In 138 games played with Chilliwack, Cholowski scored 20 goals and 69 assists during his junior career.

Cholowski is slated to join the SCSU Huskies in the fall of 2016.
SCSU ended the 2015-16 season with a 31-9-1 overall record, which tied the team's record for most victories in a season. Â SCSU also made its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division I tournament after winning the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Tournament last season.
