St. Cloud State Nordic Ski opens season with trip to Houghton

The St. Cloud State University nordic ski team opened its 2017-18 season with a trip to the Michigan Tech CXC Junior Cup 2017 races in Houghton, Mich. on Dec. 16-17. The first day of racing on the trails at MTU featured a Freestyle Sprint race and the second day of racing included a 10K classic mass start race. No team scores were kept at this meet.
On Dec. 16, SCSU's Jamie Herridge led the Huskies with a 22nd place time of 4:51.97 in the Freestyle Sprint race. Teammate Maria Hauer placed 28th in the race with a time of 4:56.48 and Haley Bock placed 34th at 5:29.94.
The weekend was completed with the 10K classic race as Hauer was SCSU's top placed in the event with a 30th place time of 40:37.9. Herridge was 36th at 41:04.6 and Bock placed 65th overall at 47:42.5.
The Huskies will continue their 2017-18 season on Jan. 3-8 with a trip to the U.S. National Championships at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, Alaska.
