Huskies clinch NSIC title with victory on Feb. 11
The nation's top ranked NCAA Division II wrestler at 285-pounds, Goergen was dominating in a 2:03 fall against Mary's Dom Tudor in the final bout of the day.  The pin was Goergen's 64th fall as a Husky and pushes him past SCSU standout Tad Merritt, who tallied 63 pins during his career from 2008-12.  Goergen currently owns a 22-0 record this season for the Huskies.
In addition to the record setting effort by Goergen, the Huskies clinched a share of the NSICÂ championship thanks to a victory by Minnesota State Mankato over Augustana. Â Both MSU and Augie now have one NSIC loss apiece this season, while the Huskies are undefeated in NSICÂ action. Â The Huskies can win the NSIC title outright on Thursday, Feb. 17 with a win at Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D.
This marks the sixth consecutive season that the Huskies have won the NSIC championships. Â SCSU has earned NSIC titles in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo. Â SCSU has won 51 consecutive NSICÂ dual matches and has not lost in NSIC competition since 2011.

At 165, Mary gained its loan points with a 9-7 victory by Paul Michaelson over SCSU's Josh Berg.  The Huskies got back on the winning track with a 19-1 tech fall win by #4 Clayton Jennissen at 174-pounds.  This was his 23rd win of the season for the Huskies.
At 184-pounds, Chevy Farris turned in a solid 14-4 major decision win for SCSU against Mary's Austin Eichmann.  To set the stage for Goergen's record setting bout, SCSU's #5 Vince Dietz scored a 16-4 major decision win over Mary's Jacob Green at 197.
The Huskies will wrap up their regular season on Feb. 16 with a 7 p.m. match at NSIC rival Augustana. Â A victory over the Vikings would help SCSU clinch its sixth consecutive NSICÂ championship. Â The Huskies have won league titles in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 and national titles in 2015 and 2016 under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo.
