Women's Basketball On the Road to Upper Iowa and Winona State

The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team (9-4, 6-3 NSIC) gets back on the road and travels to Upper Iowa (2-14, 0-10 NSIC) on Friday, Jan. 12, at 6 p.m. and Winona State (13- 1, 9-1 NSIC) on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m.

Scouting Upper Iowa:

Upper Iowa dropped both of their conference match-ups over the weekend, falling to the University of
Sioux Falls on Friday, Jan. 5 (60-46) as well as to Southwest Minnesota St. on Saturday, Jan 6. (80-57).
The Peacocks are currently on a 12-game losing streak, with their last win coming against non-conference opponent, McKendree on Nov. 11, 2017.
The program is lead by second-year head coach, Micha Thompson. To date, the Peacocks are 6-37 under Thompson.
The Peacocks' offensive efforts are paced by Blair Klostermann, who averages 12.6 points and 4.1 offensive rebounds per game.
Ashley Rosenthal has 24 steals on the season, which is the eighth-most in the NSIC.

Scouting Winona State:

The Warriors are 13-1 overall, and 9-1 in NSIC play after defeating Southwest Minnesota St. on Friday, Jan. 5 (61-46) and the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, Jan. 6 (59-51).
Winona State is on an eight-game winning streak, with their last loss coming against the University of Sioux Falls on Dec. 1, 2017.
The team is coached by Scott Ballard, who is in his 14th year running the program.
He has over 30 years of coaching experience and has won 512 career games.
Hannah McGlone is shooting 58.2% from the field, which is the highest in the NSIC.
McGlone is also leading the NSIC in rebounding with an average of 11.2 per game.
She was also named this week's NSIC South Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds over the weekend.
Allie Pickrain is the primary three-point shooting threat. She is also shooting 48.7 percent from behind the arc.

Series History against Upper Iowa

SCSU is 13-0 all-time against Upper Iowa since the start of the series in 2005.
The program defeated the Peacocks by an 83-66 score at home last season (1/13/17).
Chelsea Nooker totaled 28 points to lead the team.
Nooker also had four assists and three steals.
Betsy MacDonald recorded 18 points, seven assists and three steals.
Amanda Christianson picked up 12 points.
Madelin Dammann also reached double figures with 10 points.

Series History against Winona State

The program is 24-17 all-time against Winona State since the first meeting in 1969.
The program lost to the Warriors by a 71-64 score last season at home (1/14/17).
Andrea Thomas led the team in the contest with her 19 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
MacDonald totaled 18 points and three assists.
Nooker recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Brianna Johnson tallied eight points and six rebounds.

The team improved to 7-2 this season when Wortz scores in double figures.
Mallie Doucette nearly tied her career high of 22 points in a game with 19 off of the bench in Saturday's contest.
St. Cloud State scored 26 points in the paint in both Friday and Saturday's games.

Wortz is second on the team in scoring (12.2) and steals (15), while shooting 46.6 percent from the field (52-for-116) and 40.9 percent from three-point range (18-44).
Wortz is third on the team in minutes played (322 or 24.8 per contest) despite starting only half the games.
Amanda Christianson is third on the team in scoring at 8.8 points per contest.
She is third-highest on the team in three-pointers made (17).
Christianson is third on the team with her average of 4.8 rebounds per game.
Brianna Johnson ranks 11th in the league with her average of 2.0 offensive rebounds per game.
Johnson is the team leader at 6.2 rebounds per game, while hitting free throws at a team-leading clip of 78.3 percent (18-for-23).
