Women’s Basketball Extends Winning Streak to Five in Winona

Mallie Doucette was the catalyst who sparked the Huskies' offense by shooting 50 percent from both the field and from three-point range to lead all scorers with 18 points. Tori Wortz led the Huskies' rebounding efforts by bringing down 8 boards while also recording three steals. Andrea Thomas and Madelin Dammann each scored in double figures with Thomas also totaling four assists.
Winona State's leading scorer, Hannah McGlone was held to six points while Liz Evenocheck shot 50 percent from three-point range and paced the Warriors' offense with 14 total points. The Warriors had 14 total assists and 27 total rebounds. Allie Pickrain and Kayla Schaefer each scored nine points.
St. Cloud State shot 42.3 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range. The Huskies outrebounded the Warriors 30-27 and took advantage of the Warriors' 19 offensive turnovers. Mallie Doucette scored 18 of the Huskies' 20 points off of the bench with nine of them being from three-point range. The Warriors outscored SCSU in the third quarter, 10-9.
The Huskies held a 28-25 lead going into halftime and carried their momentum through the second half by outscoring the Warriors 25-20 in the fourth quarter. Mallie Doucette and Andrea Thomas secured the weekend sweep by shooting for a combined 81.8 percent from the free-throw line down the stretch. SCSU prevailed in playing clean and controlled basketball in a back-and-forth contest that was very fast paced because of the five lead changes in the game. St. Cloud State controlled the lead for over 22 minutes of the game with their highest lead (7 points) coming mid-way through the fourth quarter.
St. Cloud State women's basketball will return to Halenbeck Hall next weekend to face off against Northern State on Friday at 6:00 PM and Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
