Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road to Wayne State

Wayne, Nebraska – In Friday night's NSIC match-up, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (12-6, 9-5 NSIC) fell behind in the first quarter to the Wayne State Wildcats (17-6, 11-4 NSIC) to give the conference's second-highest scoring offense the early momentum. The Huskies were able to recover and match the Wildcat's 21 points in the third quarter before eventually falling by a score of 84-56. SCSU out-rebounded the Wildcats, 37-36 and was able to capitalize on nine points from their 16 offensive rebounds. However, the Huskies were outscored in the paint 26-16 and did not control a lead in the game.
Amanda Christianson paced the Huskies' offensive efforts by recording 11 points, five rebounds and one steal. Andrea Thomas also recorded ten points while Mallie Doucette scored nine points off of the Huskies' bench. Nikki Kilboten recorded five rebounds and six points off of the bench as well. As a team, St. Cloud State shot 35.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Wildcats had three of their starters score in double-figures with Paige Ballinger leading all scorers with 19 points. Andrea Larson recorded a game-high of nine rebounds. As a team, the Wildcats shot 52.6 percent from the field, 47.6 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.
St. Cloud State will travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to take on the NSIC-South leading Augustana University Vikings (14-1, 18-1 NSIC). On Friday night, the Vikings defeated the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs at home by a score of 69-46.
