SCSU swim and dive completes weekend trip to Northern Michigan

The St. Cloud State men's and women's swim and dive teams completed their weekend trip to the Upper Penisula on Saturday, Oct. 13 with dual matches against host Northern Michigan University and Northern State. The meet was held in Marquette, Mich.
The SCSU women's team competed against NMU and NSU, while the SCSU men's team matched up in a dual against NMU. NMU scored a 169-117 win over the SCSU men on Oct. 13, while the SCSU women's team defeated NSU by a score of 224-70 and lost to the Wildcats 173-122.
The Huskies will retrun to action at the Carleton College Invited on Oct. 27 in Northfield, Minn.
At NMU, St. Cloud State's Jennifer Thompson won the 50 free with a time of 24.34 and also placed second in the 100 free at 53.36. Chelsea Gehrke won the top spot in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.32 and teammate Jordan Fuse was second at 1:00.93.
Other SCSU women swimmers to earn second place finishes included Kristilee McCadden (200 free/2:00.04 & 500 free/5:23.94), and Brooke Calvin (200 breaststroke/2:30.52). To cap the day, SCSU women's 200 free relay of Alexis Burroughs, Gehrke, Christina Ware and Thompson won that event at 1:38.62. SCSU's 400 medley relay of Burroughs, Annie Hart, Fuse and Thompson place second at 4:02.61.
On the men's side, SCSU's Jose Alamo placed second in the 200 IM at 2:03.03 and Gunnar Niemeyer placed second in the 100 fly at 53.73. Nate Duncan added a second place finish in the 500 free at 4:58.75 and Anthony Schwartz was second in the 200 back at 1:56.44. Connor Deitrich placed second in the 200 breaststroke at 2:17.51 and second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.73. Joel Huth also added a pair of seconds with a time of 48.20 in the 100 free and 1:44.61 in the 200 free. The Huskies' men's 200 free relay also placed second at the race with a time of 1:29.07.
