Huskies finish eighth in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, WIS. – It's been a crazy two weeks for the St. Cloud State University cross country team. Last week, the Huskies were forced to cancel their home invite due to anticipated snow and crummy weather. This week, on a beautiful and snowless Saturday, St. Cloud State was competing in neighboring Wisconsin and the Tori Neubauer Invitational. The Huskies found quite a bit of success in La Crosse, Wisconsin, as they finished eighth as a team with 237 total team points.
St. Cloud State once again saw strong performances from its top-7 runners, led by senior Chrissy Lofgren (Stewartville, Minn. / Stewartville) and first year Cheresa Bouley (Zimmerman, Minn. / Zimmerman). Lofgren was once again the Huskies top individual finisher in the race and again finished in the top-20 thanks to her time of 22:39.6. Bouley was not far behind her teammate, as she finished the race in 23:26.7 to finish in the top-40.
Autum Shurbert-Hetzel (Stevens Point, Wis. / Stevens Point Area) was the next runner from St. Cloud State to cross the finish line, as she finished in 71st place with a time of 24:10.3. Not far behind was Kassye Todd (Elmwood, Wis. / Elmwood-Plum City), who finished in 77th with a time of 24:22.3.
Annika Juenemann (Eyota, Minn. / Dover-Eyota) rounded out the Huskies top-5, as she finished the race in 25:03.5 to finish in the top-120 races. Jamie Herridge (Medota, Minn. / Little Falls) and Clara Welhouse (Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) were the teams sixth and seventh finishers, coming in with times of 25:04.4 and 25:23.3 respectiely.
Three other runners competed for St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon, including Isabella Kraft (Bismarck, N. D. / Bismarck), Katelin Prisen (Greenleafton, Minn. / Fillmore-Central) and Megan Tarara (Woodbury, Minn. / East Ridge). Kraft finished the race in 25:37.1, while Prisen coming in with a time of 27:26.6. Tarara was the final Husky on the course, finishing with a time of 29:59.6.
After combining the top-5 individual scores, St. Cloud State finished in eighth place as a team with 237 total points. The Huskies will return to action on October 26 when the race in the NSIC Championship in Wayne, Nebraska.
