ST. CLOUD, MINN. – Few student-athletes can claim they had as good a run as St. Cloud State University senior Chrissy Lofgren (Stewartville, Minn. / Stewartville). Literally.
The senior cross country runner had a race to remember in the final Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship of her career. Lofgren earned All-Conference honors thanks to her eighth place finish in the race, leading the Huskies to a seventh place finish as a team with 229 total points.
Lofgren is the first runner from cross country to earn First Team All-NSIC honors since Sam Sunstrom achieved the feat in 2016. The senior achieved the honor by running a season best 22:42.41 to finish in eighth place as an individual, pacing St. Cloud State as the top runner across the finish line.
The Huskies put together several other strong performances on Championship Saturday. Cheresa Bouley (Zimmerman, Minn. / Zimmerman) continued her strong rookie season, clocking a 35th place finish with a time of 23:49.11. Kassye Todd (Elmwood, Wis. / Elmwood-Plum City) was close behind, finishing with a time of 24:46.61, earning 57 points towards the team's overall score with a 63rd place finish.
St. Cloud State's top-5 was rounded out by senior Autum Shurbert-Hetzel (Stevens Point, Wis. / Stevens Point Area) and Annika Juenemann (Eyota, Minn. / Dover-Eyota), both of whom finished in the top-100. Shurbert-Hetzel concluded her NSIC career with a time of 24:50.98, while Juenemann clocked a time of 25:35.29 to be the Huskies fifth finisher on the day.
Five other individuals competed for St. Cloud State at the NISC Championships Saturday afternoon. Junior Jamie Herridge (Medota, Minn. / Little Falls) finished one place behind Juenemann thanks to her time of 25:38.44, while Clara Welhouse (Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) recorded the first top-100 finish of her career at the NSIC Championships with a time of 25:48.43. Isabella Kraft (Bismarck, N.D. / North) joined the top-100 club, with a time of 25:55.92).
Megan Tarara (Woodbury, Minn. / East Ridge) and Katelin Prinsen (Preston, Minn. / Filmore-Central) were the final Huskies on the course Saturday morning. Tarara finished the race with a time of 30:58.75 while Prinsen finished with a time of 34:25.74.
After combining the scores of St. Cloud State's top-5 runners, the team finished in seventh overall with 229 points. That is the Huskies highest finish in five years, according to available records. The Huskies will return to competition on Saturday, November 9 when they compete at the NCAA Regional Championships in Joplin, Missouri.
