SCSU soccer sets team record with 10th conference win of the season

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (11-4-3, 10-3-2 NSIC) completed its 2019 regular season schedule in top order as the Huskies charted a 3-0 victory at Minnesota Duluth (6-10-2, 4-9-2 NSIC) on Friday, Nov. 8 in Duluth, Minn.
The game was SCSU's final NSIC regular season game and it also provided the Huskies with their 11th win of the season, which is the most wins in a season since SCSU posted an 11-8-2 overall record in 2011.
The 10th NSIC victory also set a new team record for most conference wins in a season by the Huskies.
SCSU will now advance to the first round of NSIC tournament play as the #5 seed at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The Huskies will travel to Bemidji State, which earned the tournament's #4 seed. The winning team will then advance to the NSIC final four, which will take place on Nov. 15 and 17 at the site of the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
The Huskies opened the contest at UMD with the a goal by Claire Shea at 8:53 with an assist being credited to Jenna Dominguez. This was Shea's team leading seventh goal of the season and it was Dominguez' fourth assist of 2019.
SCSU then moved its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Monica Majeski at 21:36. She was assisted on the play by Shea. Majeski now has three goals this season, while Shea added to her team leading point totals with four assists and 18 points in 2019.
To finish the day's scoring Carly Ekstrom scored her first goal of the season for SCSU with her tally at 74:33. Dominguez added the assist on the goal and she finished the regular season schedule with five assists and 13 points.
In the contest, UMD outshot the SCSU 12-10. SCSU sophomore netkeeper Zoe Welsh made nine saves in the game for the Huskies, which equals a season game-high for saves in a game. She now has eight shutouts to her credit, which ranks second in the team records for most shutouts in season. The current record is owned by Kenzie Hanzlik with nine shutouts in 2011. In her career, Welsh has 14 shutouts.
