Cross country earns third place finish at St. Olaf Invite

NORTHFIELD, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University Cross Country team is off to a blazing start this 2019 season. After a strong start at the Oz Memorial on September 7, the Huskies recorded their second top-3 finish of the season as a team, as they came in third with 92 total points.
St. Cloud State's top-5 runners finished in fifth, eleventh, 21st, 22nd and 33rd, adding up to the team's score of 92 points. Senior Chrissy Lofgren (Stillwater, Minn. / Stillwater) continued to be the Huskies strongest runner, as she carded a fifth place finish thanks to a time of 23:44.9. Cheresa Bouley (Zimmerman, Minn. / Zimmerman) continued her strong start to the season as well, as she was St. Cloud State's second finisher on the course, finishing in eleventh place with a time of 24:19.9.
The Huskies saw two other runners finish in the top-25, as first year Kassye Todd (Elmwood, Wis. / Elmwood-Plum City) and senior Autum Shurbert-Hetzel (Stevens Point, Wis. / Stevens Point Area) finished in 21st and 22nd respectively. Todd finished the race in 25:26.7 while Shurbert-Hetzel was right behind her with a time of 25:31.4.
Clara Welhouse (Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) rounded out St. Cloud State's top-5, as she recorded a 33rd place finish with a time of 27:09.5. One place behind her was Isabella Kraft (Bismarck, N.D. / Bismarck), who finished in 34th with a time of 27:10.3.
Megan Tarara (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) and Katelin Prinsen (Preston, Minn. / Filmore Central) also competed for the Huskies Saturday morning, finishing the 6k course in 32:14.3 and 32:22.2 respectively.
After combining the points from the top-5 racers, St. Cloud State finished in third place as a team with 92 total points. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the event with 29 points, while host St. Olaf finished in second with 41 points.
The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, September 28 when they race in the Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minnesota.
