St. Cloud State men's hockey falls 6-2 at WMU

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team lost a 6-2 decision at Western Michigan University on Friday, Jan. 24 at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The loss moves SCSU's season record to 8-11-4, 5-8-0 NCHC, while WMU improves to 10-9-4, 6-5-2 NCHC. The Huskies and Broncos will complete their weekend NCHC series at Lawson Arena with a 6:05 p.m. (CT) game on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The Bronco's took advantage of three unanswered goals in the first period to gain the victory over SCSU. WMU's Paul Washe opened the scoring at 7:59 of the first period, which was followed by a goal by Jared Kucharek at 14:11 of the first. The Bronco's first period was then capped with a goal by Hugh McGing at 15:16 to make it 3-0.
The Huskies then broke the shutout at 19:48 of the first period with a tally by Jack Ahcan, which included assists from Micah Miller and Nick Perbix.
In the second period, WMU took advantage of a 5:00 major penalty and added a power play goal by Wade Allison at 3:20 to make the score 4-1.
Freshman Zach Okabe added the Huskies' second goal of the night at 10:32 with a goal that was assisted by Luke Jaycox with a shot from the point. The goal narrowed the gap to 4-2, but WMU iced the contest with an ENG at 17:52 of the third by Ronnie Attard and then another goal at 19:58 by Brett Van Os.
On the night, WMU outshot the Huskies 40-21. WMU was 1-3 on the power play and SCSU was 0-2. David Hrenak was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 34 saves, while Brandon Bussi had 19 saves in the win for WMU.
