
Huskies win fourth straight at Minnesota-Crookston

St. Cloud State outscored Golden Eagles 35-17 in second half
CROOKSTON, MINN. – It was quite a homecoming for the St. Cloud State University women's basketball team. The Huskies played perhaps their best game of the 2021-22 season, improving to 3-1 with a dominant 53-35 win over Northern Michigan University.
FOUR IN A ROW
The Huskies and Golden Eagles were participating in an unexpected shootout in the first quarter, as the two teams scored a combined 26 points in the opening 10 minutes. St. Cloud State held the 14-12 lead after the first quarter thanks to a well-rounded offensive game plan. Six different Huskies scored in the first quarter, with no player tallying more than three points in the opening 10 minutes of play.
The second quarter including spurts of high voltage action, as St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Crookston's defense was on full display. The Golden Eagles, in particular, were extra stingy, as they held the Huskies to .333 shooting in the second quarter, including a .167 percentage from three-point range. A late offensive surge from St. Cloud State allowed the Huskies to walk into the locker room with a 25-24 halftime lead.
MInnesota-Crookston held a brief lead in the third quarter, but St. Cloud State's offense could not be stopped. The Huskies put together their highest shooting percentage of the game in the third quarter, zooming ahead to a 42-31 lead entering the fourth quarter. From there, St. Cloud State's defense took over, holding the Golden Eagles to just 17 second half points to secure the 60-41 victory.
TOP HUSKIES
- Three Huskies scored in double-digits in the victory over Minnesota-Crookston. Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / Eau Claire North) led with 12 points for St. Cloud State, while Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) and Katrina Theis (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) contributed 11 and 10 points respectively.
- Wortz added a team-leading six rebounds, while Kelsey Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn. / Sauk Centre) recorded four assists.
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State returns to Halenbeck Hall on Saturday, December 4, as the team hosts Bemidji State in NSIC play. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
