ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University volleyball team is officially returning to competition in the fall of 2021. After a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Huskies announced their schedule for the upcoming 2021 season Tuesday morning, St. Cloud State's first since its historic run in 2019.Â
The Huskies are set to face some of the toughest competition in the nation in 2021 thanks to strong nonconference opponents and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) schedule. In total, St. Cloud State will play 28 matches during the regular season, including 20 against NSIC opponents and eight against teams who either were ranked or received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) top-25 2020 preseason poll. Of those 20 conference matches, 10 will take place in the comforts of Halenbeck Hall, as the Huskies try to make another run for the NSIC and NCAA tournaments.Â
As in past years, St. Cloud State will open the season on the road, as the team is set to participate in the Keweenaw Tournament in Houghton, Michigan September 2-4 before participating in Seattle Pacific's tournament September 10-11. The Huskies first home match will take place on Friday, September 17, when they host up and coming Augustana University at 6 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. St. Cloud State will also face perennial powers Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul during the regular season and will play host to Minnesota State, May, Minot State, Minnesota-Crookston, Bemidji State, Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State in 2021.Â
