Huskies and Tommies to play at the Xcel Energy Center on Oct. 3
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The first road game of the 2021-22 season (Sunday, Oct. 3) for St. Cloud State Men's Hockey will now be played at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., against St. Thomas, as announced on Tuesday by both schools. It will be the first home game for St. Thomas as a D-I program, and the Huskies' first trip to the home of the Minnesota Wild since the 2019 NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
The game is slated to start at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 3. Tickets for the game will be accessible at ticketmaster.com, and will go on sale on Friday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. CT.
Before St. Cloud State's move to Division-I hockey ahead of the 1987-88 season, the Huskies and Tommies faced off 40 times between 1931 and 1980. The Tommies lead the current series between the two programs, 24-16, with the last meeting between the two programs coming during the 1979-80 season, where the Huskies beat the Tommies, 8-7, in overtime.
The 2022 National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Frozen Faceoff will make its return to the Xcel Energy Center this season, as the semifinals and championship game are scheduled to take place March 18-19 in St. Paul.
