
No. 4 St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Upends Manitoba in Exhibition Play

Krannila and Salquist record two points in victory to end 2022
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 4 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (14-4-0, 7-3-0 NCHC) ended 2022 on high note, downing Manitoba (7-9-0, 7-9-0 CW), 5-2, in an exhibition game Friday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Ten different Huskies scored points in the contest.
TURNING POINT
The Huskies were able to net the first goal of the game thanks to a beautiful wrist shot by freshman forward Adam Ingram (West St. Paul, Manitoba) just 1:17 into the game. St. Cloud State added three more to the board in the second period. Senior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) buried a power play goal in traffic thanks to assists from sophomore forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) and senior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) for a 2-0 Huskies lead.
A few minutes later, graduate forward Micah Miller (Grand Rapids, Minn.) made the score 3-0 off a shorthanded goal thanks to a stellar pass from Krannila and senior defenseman Dylan Anhorn (Calgary, Alberta). Just a few seconds later, Manitoba added one to the board on the power play which fueled the Huskies to push forward. A holding call on Manitoba put St. Cloud State on the power play where fifth year forward Grant Cruikshank (Delafield, Wis.) netted the Huskies fourth goal with help from senior forward Kyler Kupka (Camrose, Alberta) and junior forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finland).
The third period was full of penalties as each team went to the box a total of three times. As the period progressed, it was on its way to be scoreless until Salquist hit an empty netter off a dish from graduate forward Aidan Spellacy (Lakewood, Ohio) to make the score 2-0.

St. Cloud State will return to action in the new year with a home-and-home series with No 2 / 3 Minnesota on January 7 and 8. The Huskies will host the Gophers on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 6:00 p.m. CT at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. On Sunday, Jan. 8 St. Cloud will head down to Minneapolis for a 3:00 p.m. CT puck drop at Mariucci.

- Senior goaltender Jaxon Castor (Phoenix, Ariz.) and junior goaltender Dominic Basse (Alexandria, Va.) each took a turn in goal. Castor recorded five saves in 29:57 minutes of play giving up one goal. Basse recorded nine saves in 30:03 minutes giving up one goal.
