St. Cloud, Minn. – No. 2 St. Cloud State Wrestling wrapped up their weekend with a 34-7 win over No. 17 Minnesota State-Mankato on the road Saturday evening. The Huskies picked up two tech falls and a pair of forfeits while giving up takedowns in only two of eight wrestled matches. Nicholas Novak dominated at 149, tech falling Kadyn Kraye 18-0 in an impressive showing, while Shaeden Scheidt added a 19-1 tech fall of Mike Smith wrestling up a weight at 184. The Mavericks forfeited at 125 and 141, with their lone two wins coming from ranked wrestlers at 174 and heavyweight.
SPOTLIGHT MATCH
Nicholas Novak closed out his debut dual week with his second bonus-point win, scoring a ridiculous 18-0 tech fall of Kadyn Kraye at 149. The true freshman got into a rhythm of turning Kraye, scoring nearfall after nearfall while denying his opponent any opportunity to score points.

"First of all, we're just fortunate that we were able to make up this match with Mankato. I give Makovsky credit for allowing us to compete tonight. Overall, I thought we performed fairly well. I was super excited about the performance of Nicholas Novak at 149. Goes out, gets the tech fall for us, just an awesome job. Solid wrestling of course out of Garrett Vos, Anthony Herrera and Devin Donovan. Murphy wrestled fairly well, we just have to find a way to get to our leg attacks against Turriff. Of course Turriff's a returning All-American and a National runner-up, we're going to have to change some things up. We'll definitely see him again down the road. Then we had Shaeden Scheidt who jumped up from 174 to 184 to help us out, he's just a redshirt freshman and just did a great job for us, getting the tech fall at 84. Noah Ryan's just Mr. Consistency there at 197 – did a nice job there for us and pushed the pace, we're looking to score more points there but he does what Noah does: stays consistent and wins matches. We also had an exhibition for Jared Head against a Northern State wrestler, he goes out there and gets the fall for us at 56 seconds. It was good to have him out on the mat and perform for us as well."
On Nicholas Novak and Shaeden Scheidt's big nights… "Nick is just confident, he's out there having fun – everything just looks like it flows so easily for him out there. He's super tough in the top position and has just outstanding hips. He's right where he needs to be right now in terms of the mental stage. He's confident, and that's one of the keys for freshmen. He's also consistent, which you don't see a lot of from freshmen. As a true freshman he's super consistent. Shaeden Scheidt, he just needs confidence. Once he gets that first takedown tonight, he realized, 'hey, I can beat this guy.' He got on top, turned him a couple times, expanded his lead and allowed him to open up a bit more. He built that confidence. These young guys just need confidence when they're out there, and to have those two freshmen out there getting experience is invaluable."
