St. Cloud State Women's Basketball Second Half Comeback Pushes Past UMC

Huskies defeat UMC 68-58
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's basketball team second half comeback pushed them past Minnesota Crooktson Saturday evening at Halenbeck Hall. After shooting just a .242 in the first half, an aggressive third period pushed the Huskies back on top to help them come away with a 68-58 victory over the Golden Eagles. Three athletes scored in the double-digit mark.
GAME SUMMARY
The Huskies struggled offensively in the first two periods as Minnesota Crookston outscored SCSU 14-10 and 19-13. UMC shot .385 in the first and .667 in the second while St. Cloud only shot .250 and .235. The Huskies headed into the locker room down 33-23.
The third period was another story. The Huskies opened with a 10-0 run to cut the Eagles lead to two, 35-33, after Jada Eggebrecht sank a shot just outside the paint. At the 2:02 mark, Elizabeth Wortz drained a three to put the Huskies on top 43-41. With 20 seconds left of the period, Minnesota Crookston attempted to get a shot off until it was blocked by Ashley Sawicki. The period would end with the Huskies leading 45-44. SCSU had a stronger offensive showing as they shot .600 from the field. A 9-0 run by St. Cloud put them up eight, 56-48, with 5:50 left after Jasmine Litt sank a three. The Huskies continued to hold off UMC as the clock ticked down. With a minute left, Minnesota Crookston would keep fouling, sending the Huskies to the line where they would seal the game for a 68-59 victory.

The Huskies will have the week off until they head to Sioux Falls for the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament. St. Cloud is locked in as the number two seed in the north and will face either Southwest MN State or Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pentagon.
