Four Huskies place in top 10 as SCSU enjoys terrific performance in Bismarck
BISMARCK, N.D. – St. Cloud State Cross Country took second at the Marauder Invitational on Friday afternoon in Bismarck as part of a terrific performance in their third meet of the season.
Junior Cambrie Kowal (24:10.9) led the pack with a fifth-place finish while freshmen Paige Beason (24:25.7) and Alena Donahue (24:27.1) went seven-eight and senior Erica Conrad (24:29.5) placed 10th to put four Huskies in the top 10. Sophomore Hannah Little (25:42.1) ran a PR for a top-14 finish while fellow sophomore Jaileen Medina (27:06.5) landed in the top 20. Freshman Mady Muehr wrapped up the SCSU effort with a 28:52.4 finish to place in the top 25.
QUOTABLES – St. Cloud State assistant coach Chris Belcher
"The women ran much more confidently today – they ran much more aggressively, and it looked like they were out there to compete. One of the things that was nice to see was the way they were running as a pack – the goal is for them to do that, but we don't force it. We have them run separately in training with the knowledge that they'll naturally pack up as the season moves on. It was good to see that progression happen. Having someone different lead the team in each meet means they're all willing to step up when they need to, and we want a team who's willing to do that."
"We've got a young team, and we have some great upperclassmen. They are really starting to work together to build a foundation for a program with standards that lead to success. That's a really, really big thing at this point. Moving forward we want to continue to get a little bit stronger and a little bit faster while continuing to minimize the chance of injury – we want to manage that with such a young team."
