
No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling Tears Through No. 25 SMSU, 44-3

Huskies win nine matches and eight by bonus points to improve to 11-1 on season
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling (11-1, 6-0 NSIC) won its fifth consecutive dual and remained perfect in conference action with a 44-3 dismantling of No. 25 Southwest Minnesota State (3-5, 1-5 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies won nine of 10 matches and earned bonus points in eight victories to move to 6-0 in NSIC duals.
The win was the 17th consecutive victory for the Huskies over the Mustangs dating back to Jan. 23, 2007, the first season under head coach Steve Costanzo.
It didn't take long for SCSU to make a statement against SMSU, as redshirt sophomore Conor Knopick (Omaha, Neb.) wasted no time earning a takedown and back points before recording a fall at 1:21 over Carlo Arreola. After the Huskies earned another six points due to an injury default at 133 pounds, redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Alyeus Craig (Wichita, Kan.) earned a 12-3 major decision victory over Jake Messner to improve to 11-3 on the season.
At 149 pounds, redshirt junior Nolan Throne (Moline, Ill.) won 4-3 over Luke Peterson, leading way to back-to-back technical falls from 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) and graduate 165-pounder Anthony Herrera (Stansbury Park, Utah). Novak's match lasted 4:46 against Sean Howk as he won 16-1, while Herrera's 20-4 win took 5:59. Novak increased his team-lead in technical falls to seven while Herrera recorded his third technical fall of the season.
Freshman 174-pounder Cole Glazier (Kasson, Minn.) continued his impressive debut campaign with a 13-1 major decision over Lucas Hodges to improve to 16-1 on the season with four major decisions, five technical falls and five falls. Redshirt sophomore 184-pounder Tyson Meyer (Glenwood, Minn.) got the start at 184 and earned a 15-0 technical fall over Adam Slyvester. Following SMSU's lone win of the match at 197 pounds, SCSU then finished the match with a win at heavyweight from sophomore heavyweight Elijah Novak (Foley, Minn.). They Husky senior scored a fall right before the end of the first period over Jackson Esping to finish the match at 44-3.
