Huskies set new program best mark for first 20 matches, tally 10th sweep in last 12 matches
ABERDEEN, S.D. – No. 3 St. Cloud State Volleyball (18-2, 12-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept No. 22 Northern State (25-21, 25-23, 25-25-20) on Friday evening at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. The Huskies set a new program best mark for the first 20 matches (18-2), passing the 1995 team, who started their season 17-3.
SCSU led the Wolves (14-5, 6-5 NSIC) in points (61-47), kills (51-36), hitting percentage (.295-.240), aces (5-3), assists (48-32) and digs (46-35). NSU led the match in blocks (8-5).
The Huskies extended their match win streak (14), tallied their 10th sweep in their last 12 matches and extended their best start to conference play (12-0) in program history. Eight of the 14 wins during the streak have come against nationally ranked opponents.
TOP HUSKIES
"I thought Northern State played fantastic tonight! They were very efficient on offense and in the first two sets they sided out what felt like all the time, which really limited our serving runs. I was hoping we would serve a little bit tougher to get them out of system, and we really struggled slow slowing down [Abby] Brooks in the middle and [Hanna] Thompson on the outside. In the end, I thought our attackers did a little bit better job and we started the third set really strong. Northern State scraped and clawed their way back to make it a very competitive third set after we built a nice lead. I'm so proud of our women – there are 50+ years of Huskies Volleyball history and this team is off to the best start 20 matches in, of any team, which is just a testament to the work they put in, the fact that they treat their teammates well and their passion for the program."
