Balanced St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball Attack Beats UMary at Home

All nine participating Huskies scored at least four points in 10th win of the season
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (10-13 overall, 6-11 NSIC) held off UMary, 75-61 for its 10th win of the season Thursday night at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies jumped out to a 34-21 halftime lead, taking advantage of UMary's poor shooting – 7-of-26 (26.9%) from the field – and seven turnovers. SCSU turned the seven Maraduers turnovers into 10 points on the other end. Zyon Smith (10), Ty Rogers (seven) and Xavier Lewis (four) accounted for all UMary's first half points while senior Matt Willert (Buffalo, Minn.) led the Huskies with seven first half points in eight minutes off the bench. Freshman Anish Ramlall (Rosemount, Minn.) made two of his three first half three-point attempts for six points.
SCSU maintained a 10+ point lead for the final 11 and a half minutes despite UMary shooting extremely well from the field (16-of-26 – 61.5%) and from three (3-of-7 – 42.9%) in the second half. SCSU outscored the Maraduers 41-40 in the second half and knocked down 17 of 19 second half free throws to help seal the victory. Freshman Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) scored eight second half points which included a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) and senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) each scored seven second half points.

- Morgan scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. He made all six of his free throw attempts.
- Willert scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in 19 minutes of action off the bench. He made 4-of-8 shots from the field.
- Ramlall scored 12 points and dished out three assists in his return to the lineup. He made 3-of-6 three-point attempts.
- With the win, SCSU is now 20-13 all-time against UMary.
- SCSU led the game in free throw percentage (87.5-71.4), three-pointers (8-5), free throws (21-10), assists (13-9), points off turnovers (20-9) and bench points (33-18)
- UMary led in field goal percentage (44.2-43.4), three-point percentage (35.7-34.8), blocks (1-0), points in the paint (32-26), second chance points (7-2) and fast break points (6-3).
- Both teams made 23 field goals, grabbed 31 rebounds (SCSU – 6-25—31 | UMary – 6-25—31) and tallied five steals.
- SCSU started five freshmen (Ramlall, Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee), Vance Peiffer (Waukee, Iowa), Morgan and Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.)) for the first time this season.
- Morgan made a career-high six free throws. He has scored 13+ points in six games this season and grabbed 6+ rebounds in 11.
- Willert has scored 12+ points in eight games this season and has grabbed 5+ rebounds in seven. He has made 2+ threes in 12 games including the last three.
- Ramlall has scored 12+ points in nine games this season and dished out 3+ assists in 10. He has made 3+ threes in six games.
- Allen made his first career collegiate start and scored 9 points, making all five of his free throw attempts, tying his career-high for makes. He has scored 9+ points in 17 games including the last 15.
- Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. He has scored 8+ in four games this season and grabbed 5+ rebounds in six, including the last four in a row.
- Mutimer scored seven points on a perfect 2-of-2 from three and nabbed two steals. His two three pointers tied his season high. He has scored 7+ points in nine games this season and has posted 2+ steals in four. He has made 2+ three-pointers in four games including the last two in a row.
- Graduate student Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis.) scored six points and grabbed three rebounds. He has scored 6+ points in all but two games this season. He has grabbed 3+ rebounds in 16 games this season.
- Hawks scored four points and grabbed five rebounds in his third straight start. He has scored 4+ points in 15 games this season and grabbed 5+ rebounds in 13 including the last three.
- Peiffer scored four points on 2-of-3 shooting and grabbed two rebounds. He has scored 4+ points in 14 games this season and grabbed 2+ rebounds in 15.
