Upset Alert! St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball Takes Down No. 15 Minot State on the Road

Huskies end game on 20-0 run to stun MISU 72-68, Hawks comes up big with career-high 17 points
MINOT, N.D. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (11-13 overall, 7-11 NSIC) scored the final 20 points in Sunday afternoon's 72-68 upset of No. 15 Minot State at the Minot State Dome.
The Huskies found themselves down as many as 15 points in the first 20 minutes of the game but ended the half on a 14-4 run to cut their deficit to five points at halftime.
Minot State (18-6, 13-5 NSIC) only turned the ball over once in the first half but SCSU made four more three-pointers to keep itself within striking distance after a subpar overall shooting performance (11-of-29 – 37.9%).
SCSU trailed by its largest margin of the game – 16 – after a Minot State lob pass went in the basket for a three-pointer with 5:50 left in the game. The Huskies went on to score the next 20 points, stunning the No. 15 Beavers on their home court.

The Huskies return to Halenbeck Hall next weekend to play their two last regular season home games of the season. SCSU welcomes Southwest Minnesota State to St. Cloud on Friday and Sioux Falls on Saturday. - Freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. He shot 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
- Freshman Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds. He made all four of his free throw attempts.
- Freshman Anish Ramlall (Rosemount, Minn.) scored eight points, dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.
- Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds. He made 2-of-3 three-point attempts.
- SCSU is now 18-6 all-time against Minot State after the win.
- First win against a ranked opponent since Feb. 16, 2019, when the Huskies took down No. 16 Northern State in Aberdeen.
- SCSU led the game in three-point percentage (34.6-21.7), three-pointers (9-5), free throws (13-11), total rebounds (7-31—38 – 5-30—35), assists (14-10) and fast break points (8-7).
- Minot State led in field goal percentage (43.3-42.4), free throw percentage (78.6-76.5), field goals (26-25), steals (6-2), blocks (4-0), points off turnovers (11-7), points in the paint (34-22), second chance points (9-8) and bench points (36-23).
- SCSU started five freshmen (Ramlall, Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee), Vance Peiffer (Waukee, Iowa), Morgan and Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.)) for the second consecutive game.
- Hawks posted new career-highs in points (17), minutes (29), field goals (six), field goal attempts (10 – tie), three-point attempts (one – tie) free throws (five), free throw attempts (five – tie) in his fourth consecutive start. He has grabbed 8+ rebounds in seven games this season.
- Morgan played a career-high 33 minutes. He has scored 13+ points seven times this season and grabbed 4+ rebounds in 19 games.
- Ramlall has scored 8+ points in 13 games this season, dished out 4+ assists in six and grabbed 3+ rebounds in 10.
- Nate Dahl tied his career-high with two three-pointers. He has scored 7+ points in seven games this year and grabbed 6+ rebounds in three.
- Freshman Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee) scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds. His five rebounds tied his career high. He has scored 7+ points in 20 games this season including the last 17 in a row. He has grabbed 5+ rebounds in two games.
- Senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) scored six points and dished out three assists. He tied his season high of two three-pointers. He has made two threes in the last three games. He has scored 6+ points in 11 games including the last three. He has dished out 3+ assists in 15 games.
- Senior Matt Willert (Buffalo, Minn.) scored five points and grabbed five rebounds. He has scored 5+ points 18 times this year and has grabbed 5+ rebounds eight times.
