St. Cloud State Track & Field / Cross Country Adds Frankie Bakalars to Coaching Staff

Former All-MIAC Thrower named Assistant Coach after two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Dubuque (Iowa)
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Track & Field / Cross Country head coach Gabrielle Brown has announced the addition of Frankie Bakalars to her coaching staff as an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2024-25 academic year.
"Frankie will be a great addition not just for this program but for the SCSU community," said Brown, "He comes to us with an abundance of knowledge and skills having learned from great people. His contributions will compliment exactly what we need to be successful."
"I am extremely excited to be joining Coach Elle and the Huskies," said Bakalars, "I believe our staff, can do great things for this program and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the program!"
Bakalars spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant track & field coach at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) working primarily with the throwers, high jumpers and combined event athletes. While coaching the Spartans, Bakalars contributed to the coaching and development of four NCAA First-Team All-Americans, five NCAA Second-Team All-Americans, five American Rivers Conference champions, 19 All-Conference performers and 24 Top-10 performances in UD history.
As an athlete, Bakalars competed at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota where he was a three-time All-Conference athlete in the hammer throw and weight throw from 2018-2022. He is currently third in school history in both the hammer throw and weight throw.
A native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Bakalars graduated from La Crosse Logan High School in 2018 where he participated in track & field, football and basketball.
Bakalars holds his Master's Degree from the University of Dubuque in Sport Management and his Bachelor's Degree from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in Digital Media & Journalism.
