No. 10/9 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Drops First Game of 2025

Huskies blanked by No. 4 Minnesota Duluth, 3-0
DULUTH, Minn. – No. 10/9 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (10-7-4, 5-7-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) was shut out in its first game of the New Year by No. 4 Minnesota Duluth on Friday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth.
The game was tied at zero after the first 20 minutes and continued to be scoreless until just under four minutes left in the second period when Minnesota Duluth (14-5-2, 9-4-2 WCHA) scored, taking a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs added a second goal with six seconds left in the middle period and took a 2-0 lead into the third.
With just under 2:30 left in the game, SCSU pulled freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) and UMD scored an empty netter 30 seconds later. The Huskies were awarded a power play opportunity in the final minute and a half of the game and pulled Kyrkkö again, looking to score a 6-on-4 goal. The Huskies scored twice in the final 70 seconds of the game but had both goals overturned after successful Minnesota Duluth coaches' challenges.

- Fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) won 10 faceoffs and tied for the team lead in shots on goal with three.
- Junior defender Regan Bulger (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories) tied for the game lead in blocked shots with two.
- SCSU moves to 15-89-12 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and 5-53-5 all-time in Duluth against the Bulldogs.
- The Huskies led the game in saves (31-24) and blocks (7-5). Minnesota Duluth led in shots (34-24) and faceoff wins (30-21).
- SCSU's powerplay went 0-for-4 (fifth game in a row going 0-for-3 or worse). The Huskies killed off both penalties they took.
- It was the first time the Huskies had been held scoreless since Nov. 2 against No. 1 Wisconsin (nine games).
- Kyrkkö's 31 saves were the second most of her career. She has made 30+ saves in three games this season and started her 10th career game.
- Gentry has won 10+ faceoffs in 12 games this season.
- Gentry and sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) tied for the team lead in shots on goal with three apiece.
- Sundelin went 7-and-5 from the dot.
- Fifth year forward Ally Qualley (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and senior defender Ella Anick (Hermantown, Minn.) skated in their 120th career game.
