Huskies shut out by No. 4 Minnesota Duluth, 3-0 for second consecutive game
DULUTH, Minn. – No. 10/9 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (10-8-4, 5-8-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) was blanked, 3-0 by No. 4 Minnesota Duluth for the second consecutive game on Saturday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth.
The game was deadlocked at zero through the first 37 minutes-plus of action before UMD (15-5-2, 10-4-2 WCHA) broke the tie and scored the first goal of the game late in the second period. The Bulldogs went on to add two goals – one powerplay and one even strength – in the third period to make the score 3-0.
For the second night in a row, the Huskies pulled their goalie in an attempt to score a six-on-four power play goal but were unsuccessful. SCSU's power play went 0-for-4 and only registered two shots, while UMD went 1-for-3 on the power play after attempted six shots on the player advantage.

The Huskies return home for their final regular season home series of the season against Bemidji State on Friday-Saturday Jan. 17-18 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. Friday's puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. and Saturday's finale is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday is Youth Day and everyone will have the opportunity to Skate with the Huskies post-game. - Fifth year forward Ally Qualley (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the team with four shots on goal and two blocked shots.
- Sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) led the team with 10 faceoff wins, going 10-and-8 on the dot for the game.
- Fifth year goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) made 29 saves.
- SCSU moves to 15-90-12 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and 5-54-5 all-time in Duluth against the Bulldogs. The Huskies went 0-3-1 against UMD this season.
- The Huskies led the game in saves (29-24). Minnesota Duluth led in shots (32-24), faceoff wins (29-19) and blocked shots (12-6).
- SCSU's powerplay went 0-for-4 (sixth game in a row going 0-for-3 or worse). The Huskies killed off one of the three penalties they took.
- It was the second time the Huskies have been held scoreless in two consecutive games (Nov. 1-2 against No. 1 Wisconsin) and the team's second three game losing streak this season.
- Qualley set a season high in shots on goal (four) and tied her season high for blocked shots (two).
- Sundelin won 10+ faceoffs for the second time this season.
- Ahola made 29+ saves for the fourth time this season.
- Fifth year forward Avery Myers (Fargo, N.D.) skated in her 130th career game.
- Senior forward Abby Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) skated in her 125th career game.
- Redshirt sophomore forward Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) skated in her 55th career game.
