Huskies Use Late Push to Best Sioux Falls 78-69

St. Cloud State wins third consecutive game
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Men's (13-8, 9-4 NSIC) picked up their 13th win of the season as they used a late push to beat Sioux Falls 78-69 Friday evening. The Huskies got off to a strong start as a putback dunk by Wyatt Hawks gave SCSU an 18-5 lead to cap off a 13-0 run. Sioux Falls quickly cut the lead down to six points at the 13:03 mark of the first half after an and-one by Taylen Ashley. The defense of St. Cloud State then started to takeover the game as on multiple occurrences turned a stop into a transition opportunity. Sioux Falls would nearly go five minutes without scoring a bucket as SCSU led 28-14 with 8:25 left in the half. From that point, the Cougars began to find their offensive flow as offensive rebounds leading to second chance points sparked a comeback. In part to 13 offensive rebounds and 11 second chance points in the first half, Sioux Falls only trailed by a single point at the break as the Huskies led 39-38. The second half between the teams was a battle as neither team led by more than one possession for the first 15 minutes of the second half. With the game tied at 65 with 4:47 left in the game, Lucas Morgan started to give the Huskies momentum as he drove into the lane and finished through contact for the and-one. Morgan finished off the three-point play before the Huskies got a stop which led to a triple by Kynan Philippe to put SCSU up six points. St. Cloud State strung together three more stops before a corner three by Nate Dahl with 2:26 left in the game rang home to put the Huskies up 74-65. The Cougars would then cut the lead to five points, but the Huskies closed the game out at the free throw line by making four of their final six attempts with key makes by Morgan and Anish Ramlall. St. Cloud State would ultimately win 78-69 for their third consecutive win.

- Lucas Morgan led the way for the Huskies by tying his season-high in points with 20. He added on nine rebounds which was a season-high. Morgan shot 4/8 from the field and made all 11 of his free throw attempts which was the seventh most makes in program history from the free throw line without a miss. The Australian also totaled three stocks which was the fourth time tallying 3+ stocks this season.
- Wyatt Hawks was dominant in the paint with 16 points on 8/11 shooting to go with six rebounds, two assists, and three stocks. This was Hawks' fifth game this season scoring 16+ points and making 8+ field goals. The three stocks for Hawks was his fifth game on the year with 3+ stocks and eighth multi-block game.
- Kynan Philippe scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, and rained down three three-pointers. Philippe has cashed 3+ threes in eight game this year while making 3+ triples in three straight games. He scored in double-digits for the 12th time this season.
- St. Cloud State is now 15-6 all-time against Sioux Falls.
- SCSU has now exceeded their win total and conference win total from last year with 13 wins and nine conference victories (12 and eight last season).
- The Huskies led the game in field goal percentage (47.4-35.3), three-point percentage (47.1-40.0), free throw percentage (66.7-64.7), assists (17-14), steals (8-2), points off turnovers (11-7), points in the paint (34-22), and fast break points (4-0).
- Nate Dahl totaled 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. This was the 12th game where he has scored 12+ points.
- Luke Winkel tallied nine points, seven assists, and a block and steal. Winkel has now dished 7+ assists in two games this season.
- Anish Ramlall scored 8 points, grabbed two rebounds, and cashed two threes. Ramlall has drained 2+ threes in nine games this season.
- Lee Marks III totaled two points, four rebounds, and two steals. This was his second multi-steal game and 10th game where he has grabbed 4+ rebounds.
