
No. 8 St. Cloud State Wrestling Takes Four Titles at Luther College Open

7 Huskies place top three
Decorah, IA. – No. 8 St. Cloud State Wrestling competed in the Luther College Open Saturday morning as they traveled to Decorah, Iowa. The Huskies claimed four titles with 7 Huskies finishing top three, and 15 Huskies placing.
At 133, freshman Ethan Bast captured two bonus point victories on his way to a title. Bast started his day with a 16-0 tech fall victory over Dylan McAmbly of University of Dubuque. He followed that up with a trio of decision wins, one of which in sudden victory to advance to the finals. Bast faced off against Wyatt Unser of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where three takedowns propped him to a 13-5 major decision to take the title.
At 141, freshmen Draven Johns and Rowdy Neighbor each took Co-1st. Johns began his pursuit with a 19-3 tech fall against Devon Lietzau of Augsburg. He then strung together a pair of decision victories to reach the finals. Neighbor reached the finals after bonus point victories in three of his four bouts. He opened with a 11-0 major decision against Dimitri Bao-Washington of Quincy and then produced two tech falls victories to reach the semifinals. An 8-2 win against teammate Cole Bozile propelled Neighbor to the finals. Johns and Neighbor did not wrestle each other.
Freshman Brenden Heying was the final Husky to come away with a title with his coming at 184. Heying started with a 5-1 decision win and followed that with a 15-0 tech fall to advance to the quarterfinals. A takedown in overtime gave him a 4-1 win in sudden victory against Owen Greisbach of Augsburg to send him to the finals. Heying would capture a title for the second consecutive open after a third period escape ultimately led to a 1-0 win against Nicky Bernard of North Iowa Area Community College.
