INDIANAPOLIS – For the sixth straight year and the 11th time in program history No. 5 St. Cloud State Volleyball is headed to the NCAA Tournament, as the 2025 NCAA Division-II Volleyball Tournament field was announced on Monday. The Huskies (26-6, 18-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference), the No. 4 seed in the central region will play the No. 5 seed Missouri Western (21-7, 13-3 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) on Thursday, December 4 in Kearney, Nebraska. It will be the fourth meeting between the two programs (SCSU leads the series 2-1).
SCSU is headed to its sixth consecutive and 11th-ever NCAA Tournament after winning the NSIC Tournament. It was the Huskies second NSIC Tournament Championship in a row and fourth in program history (2021, 2022, 2024, 2025), all coming in the last five years. St. Cloud State improved to 16-2 (.889) all-time in NSIC Tournament matches and 4-2 in championship matches. The Huskies have reached the tournament final in each of the last six seasons which have been the only tournaments in program history.
The Huskies had four players named to the all-tournament team – Junior outside hitter Shelby Kimm (North Liberty, Iowa), sophomore setter Braya LaPlant (Grand Rapids, Minn.), redshirt senior middle blocker Ella Thompson (Lakeville, Minn.) and graduate opposite Sam Zimmerman (Moorhead, Minn.) for the fourth time in program history (2021, 2022, 2024, 2025). Each of the four also earned All-NSIC honors with Kimm, LaPlant and Thompson being named to the first team and Zimmerman earning second team honors. Head coach Chad Braegelmann became just the second coach in SCSU Volleyball history to surpass 200 wins as the program's head coach on Nov. 8.
The NSIC, the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC) make up the 40-team NCAA Central Region. The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA region tournament on December 4-6. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the MIAA, GAC and NSIC postseason tournaments, with the remaining five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The eight regional winners will advance to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the championship quarterfinals, semifinals and final match on Thursday-Saturday, December 11-13, hosted by the Sioux Falls Sports Authority and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
