St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Hosts Washburn for NCAA Central Region Championship Game

Huskies will host an NCAA Tournament game for first time in program history
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (16-2-5, 11-1-3 NSIC) continues its historic 2025 campaign with its first-ever NCAA Tournament home game when the Huskies host No. 4 seed Washburn (12-3-6, 8-0-4 MIAA) on Sunday, Nov. 30. The Sweet 16 and Central Region championship game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex in St. Joseph, Minn.

SERIES HISTORY
In addition to being the first Sweet 16 appearance for the Huskies, Sunday's meeting will be the first between the two schools. SCSU beat two MIAA programs, Pittsburg State and Central Missouri en route to Sunday's matchup.
FIRST TWO NCAA TOURNAMENT WINS
SCSU won its first two NCAA Tournament wins ever last weekend, defeating No. 6 seed Pittsburg State, 3-0, on Nov. 21 and No. 7 seed Central Missouri, 2-1 (overtime), on Nov. 23 in Bemidji. Against the Gorillas, the Huskies scored twice in the first 12 minutes of the game on goals from junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) and senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and tacked on a third from Primerano in the second half. Redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) made three saves to preserve the shutout for SCSU. Junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) scored an overtime game-winning goal against the Jennies to send the Huskies to the Sweet 16.
ANOTHER CAMPAIGN FOR THE RECORD BOOK
SCSU is in the midst of its third consecutive and third-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. In the conference tournament, the Huskies trip to the NSIC Championship Game was its second in program history and first since 2011.
This season, the Huskies have set program records for most wins (16), most conference wins (11) and best start (9-game unbeaten streak in 2025. SCSU had a league-high and program-best eight all-conference honorees, led by senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) and senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) being named to the All-NSIC First Team. Quam was named NSIC Midfielder of the Year (first year of award) after leading NSIC with seven assists, while Primerarno became the third player in program history to earn four all-conference honors and the first in program history to earn three first team all-conference honors. Head Coach Gretta Macdonald recorded her 100th career victory on Oct. 31 and was named NSIC Coach of the Year for second time in three seasons.

Additionally, SCSU had a league-high eight individuals earn all-conference honors, with two being named to the first team and six earning second team honors.

SCSU earned its statement win of the season to-date in the regular season finale, upending and handing then-No. 2 Minnesota State its first loss of the season in a 1-0 victory on Nov. 6 in Mankato. With the win, SCSU improved to 9-27-4 all-time against the Mavericks and snapped a five-game winless streak against Minnesota State. The win snapped a 36-game unbeaten streak in home conference games for the Mavericks, with its last loss coming on Nov. 8, 2019, a 1-0 setback to Concordia-St. Paul.
MACDONALD GETS 100
Head coach Gretta Macdonald reached a career milestone when she earned her 100th career victory in a 4-1 win over Wayne State on Oct. 31. In her 12th season as head coach (no season in 2020 due to pandemic), Macdonald is already the program's longest tenured and winningest coach at 105-71-36 (.580). She helped the Huskies capture its first-ever conference championship in 2023 when the team won the NSIC Regular Season championship, and she has led the program to its first three NCAA Tournament appearances in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Her teams have 10 program records, including most victories (16, 2025), best winning percentage (.804, 2025), most conference wins (11, 2025) most shutouts (13, 2025), and fewest goals allowed (15, 2024).
25-POINT CLUB ADDITIONS
For the first time in program history, St. Cloud State Women's Soccer has four current student athletes with 25 career points. Two Huskies, senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) and junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), reached the 25-point club this season, joining senior Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) who reached the milestone last season.
Quam reached 25 points in SCSU's 1-0 win over Michigan Tech on Sept. 7 and then recorded three assists in a 5-0 win over UW-Parkside on Sept. 12 to match a career-high for assists in a game. She is just the second Husky in program history to have multiple games with three or more assists, joining Kim Corbin who did it four times. Quam currently leads the NSIC in assists with seven. Her 22 career assists rank second all-time while her 36 career points rank 14th.
Olson is the latest to join the 25-point club with an assist in a 2-1 win over Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 12, becoming the 25th Husky in program history to reach the mark. Olson has scored 2+ goals and 2+ assists in each of her three seasons as a Husky, including a 18-point (6g/6a) performance this season.
Primerano and Trapino continue to work their way up the all-time scoring list for the Huskies. Primerano currently ranks fourth with 58 points (19g/20a) while Trapino ranks eighth with 52 points (20g/12a).
STRICKLAND STRICT IN NET
Redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) has been elite in net for the Huskies this season as she continues to build on an impressive campaign that will be remembered in the record book. The now two-time All-NSIC second team selection has produced an 16-2-5 mark in net with a 0.57 GAA, .856 S% and 12 shutouts while earning her first career NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week honor on Oct. 6.
Among program records for a single season, Strickland's marks currently rank first in GAA, first in shutouts and fourth in S%. Among career records, she already ranks first in wins (29) and first in shutouts (20).
