Strong Second Half Pushes Huskies to 93-69 Win Over Wayne State

SCSU moves to 5-0 in NSIC for first time since 2008-09
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (7-3, 5-0 NSIC) stayed undefeated in conference play as they defeated Wayne State 93-69 for their sixth straight victory. The Huskies outscored the Wildcats 48-30 in the second half.
St. Cloud State held an early seven point lead five minutes into the game as a layup by Luke Winkel set the score at 14-7. The Huskies steadily held that lead for a chunk of the first half, but a 5-1 run by the WSC gave them a 28-26 advantage with 7:47 left in the half. SCSU retook that lead following a triple by Wyatt Hawks and slowly started rebuild their lead. Winkel closed out the half with a bang as he drained a three-pointer with six seconds remaining as SCSU held a 45-39 lead going into the break.
Coming out of the half, Winkel stayed hot with a pair of threes which extended the Huskies lead to 12. SCSU continued to pour it on as a 13-2 run capped off by a smooth finish from Azayah Washington put the Huskies up 19 with 11:36 remaining. St. Cloud State led by 15+ points the remainder of the game as they picked up a 93-69 victory. Offensively, SCSU shot 56.7% from the field in the second half while cashing eight of their 12 three-point attempts. The stronghold defense of St. Cloud State also did their part by holding the Wildcats to 30 points on 40% shooting while forcing nine turnovers. With the win, St. Cloud State moves to 5-0 in conference play and is the last undefeated team in conference play in the NSIC. The last time they started 5-0 was 2008-09.

- Luke Winkel tallied his first career double-double with 27 points and a career-high 11 assists with zero turnovers. Winkel shot 8/15 from the field and made a career-high five threes on six attempts. This was Winkel's fifth game scoring 20+ this season. He tallied five 20+ point games all of last season.
- Azayah Washington poured in a career-high 17 points on an efficient 7/11 shooting. Washington made two of his four three-point attempts for his fourth multi-three game this year.
- Kynan Philippe totaled 15 points, six rebounds, and three three-pointers. Philippe shot 6/9 from the field and registered his fourth multi-three game and fifth game grabbing 6+ rebounds.

- St. Cloud State is now 27-6 all-time against Wayne State and have won four straight games over the Wildcats.

- Bob Griechen made his first start in a Huskies uniform and compiled 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and six stocks (five steals & one block). The five steals were a career-high for Griechen.
- Nate Dahl stuffed the stat sheet with four points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
- Anish Ramlall scored five points to go with four rebounds and a steal.
