
Huskies Command Paint in 77-70 Win Over Jamestown

SCSU moves to 9-0 at Halenbeck Hall
St. Cloud, MN – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (14-5, 11-2 NSIC) stayed unbeaten at Halenbeck Hall on the year as they defeated Jamestown 77-70 Friday evening. The Huskies took command of the paint with a 44-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Through the first five minutes of the game, the Huskies held a marginal 14-11 lead after a triple by Luke Winkel. The three-ball by Winkel started a 7-0 run as layups by Bob Griechen and Winkel led to a timeout by Jamestown. SCSU steadily held their lead, but five three-point makes by the Jimmies in the half kept them close. St. Cloud State ultimately went into halftime leading 38-32.
Moving into the second half, SCSU continued to break the paint and get looks at the rim. The Huskies still could never break the game open until an and-one layup by Winkel served as a catalyst. The Ankeny, Iowa native finished inside again as Jamestown called a timeout as the lead was now 11 points. Out of the timeout, the Huskies got a stop which led to a layup by Lee Marks III. St. Cloud State stringed together another stop before Winkel blazed a three as the lead ballooned to 16 points. SCSU comfortably held a double-digit lead as they led 70-55 with 3:52 remaining in the game. Jamestown would make a late 9-0 run as the lead was down to six. The Huskies would close the game out at the free throw line as they made seven of their final eight attempts. SCSU ultimately stayed undefeated at Halenbeck Hall as they beat Jamestown 77-70.
Top Huskies
- Luke Winkel led the Huskies with 24 points (9/17), six rebounds, and three assists. This was Winkel's eighth game scoring 24+ points this season.
- Wyatt Hawks tallied his seventh double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hawks was a defensive force in the paint as he tied his career-high in blocks with six. He also dished out four assists.
- Bob Griechen posted his first double-double of the season as he scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Griechen shot 6/13 from the field and made all four of his free throws. This was his fourth game scoring 16+ points and his third straight.

- St. Cloud State is now 10-0 all-time against Jamestown.
- SCSU moved to 9-0 at Halenbeck Hall on the year for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

- Azayah Washington scored eight points on 2/4 shooting and made all four of his free throws. This was his ninth game scoring 8+ points this season.
