SCSU moves to 10-0 at home
St. Cloud, MN – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (15-5, 12-2 NSIC) stayed unbeaten at Halenbeck Hall on the year as they defeated Northern State 72-59 Saturday evening. SCSU held the Wolves to 36.4% shooting and forced 17 turnovers.
The first five minutes of the game started slow for both offenses as the game was tied 4-4. Anish Ramlall would break the tie with a driving layup and then cashed a three for the 5-0 run. NSU finished inside before back-to-back buckets by Luke Winkel extended the lead to seven and led to a Northern State timeout. The Huskies held steady of their lead for the next few minutes before NSU tied the game at 20. The game would remain tied at 28 with 1:04 left in the half. Bob Griechen would break that tie with a big slot three as the Huskies went into halftime leading 31-28.
The second half was a battle as neither team could find the offense needed to pull away, in the case of the Huskies, or take a lead, in the case of the Wolves. St. Cloud State generated consistent looks from three but were unable to capitalize. SCSU would lead 46-43 at the 10:36 mark of the second half. Being aggressive on the glass and attacking the paint, the Huskies rattled off a 5-0 run, all from the free throw line. After a steal by Wyatt Hawks, Winkel cashed a midrange jumper as SCSU now led by 10 points. Northern State called a timeout where they responded with a layup, but the Huskies came down and found an open Ramlall in the corner who buried a big three. St. Cloud State led by 9+ points the rest of the way as they went on to beat Northern State 72-59 for their eighth consecutive win.
