No. 16 St. Cloud State Volleyball Upends No. 14 Minnesota Duluth in Straight Sets on the Road

Huskies earn first ranked win of 2026, post fifth straight victory
DULUTH, Minn. – No. 16 St. Cloud State Volleyball (14-5 overall, 8-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept No. 14 Minnesota Duluth (16-3, 9-2 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon at Romano Gymnasium. The Huskies took the match 25-21, 27-25 and 25-20 for their first ranked win of the season, its fifth consecutive win and fourth straight sweep.

The Huskies conclude their four-match road trip next weekend when they travel to play Northern State (13-6, 8-3 NSIC) and Jamestown (14-5, 7-4 NSIC). - Junior middle blocker Kinsey Mohwinkle (Aplington, Iowa) – match-high 13 kills on 21 swings (.429 hitting percentage) and four block assists
- Senior outside hitter Shelby Kimm (North Liberty, Iowa) – match-high 12 digs and eight kills
- Junior setter Braya LaPlant (Grand Rapids, Minn.) – match-high 35 assists and five digs
- SCSU moved to 47-82 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and are 6-4 against UMD in the last 10 meetings, including a four-match win streak. The Huskies also moved to 6-22 all-time against UMD in Duluth.
- The Huskies moved to 1-5 against teams ranked/receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) DII National Poll this season and improved to 5-3 in road matches and 12-2 in three set matches.
- St. Cloud State led the match in points (57-40), kills (45-29), blocks (10-8), assists (38-25) and digs (47-41). UMD led the match in aces (3-2).
- The Huskies 10 total blocks as a team were the second most in a match this season
- Mohwinkle tied her career high in kills. Her 13 kills were tied for the second most in a three set match by a Husky this season and it was the seventh time a Husky hit .400 or better in a match this season and the second time for Mohwinkle. Her 15.0 points were the most by a Husky in a three set match this season and it was Mohwinkle's third 10+ kill performance of the season.
- Kimm recorded double-digit digs for the 11th time this season.
- LaPlant posted 35+ assists for the 12th time this season.
- Junior outside hitter/opposite Carlie Willis (Grundy Center, Iowa) recorded eight kills and four block assists. Her four block assists were a new single match career high, and her four total blocks tied her single match best.
- Senior middle blocker Hannah Bruskiewicz (Rogers, Minn.) recorded eight kills, two solo blocks and two block assists.
- Junior libero Laurin Hamann (Manitowoc, Wis.) tallied 11 digs and a match-high two aces.
- Senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Abby Wachal (Lincoln, Neb.) contributed 10 digs. It was her fourth match with double-digit digs this season.
- Junior outside hitter Emery Thury (Watertown, S.D.) sent down seven kills.
